Privacy and Blog Characters: Behind the Mask
Hi, this is Yael.
Today, many people approached me and discreetly asked why I was writing about masks when I was wearing one.
It's important to me to get things in order when it comes to what's happening here between the lines.
Everything you read on this blog is based on reality. These are experiences I have had firsthand and stories that really happened. Those who have followed the previous chapters (especially the recommended chapters 1 and 20), already know that my biography is laid out here before you, bare and unfiltered.
So what is "disguised" anyway? The only things that are masked are the technical details: my name, my picture (it's all drawn with AI anyway, which is the funniest thing) and the identifying details of the men I wrote about. Everything else? It's me, 100%. The truth is, sometimes I wish it were a fabrication. It probably would have saved me some particularly bizarre dates...
This is a defense (for the truth) in the "Court of Life," I serve as my own lawyer.
The use of pseudonyms and illustrative images is a legal tool and nothing more. I have one and only one goal in mind: to protect the privacy of the individuals involved (the innocent, and those who are a little less so).
But make no mistake! The testimonies here are sworn on the keyboard. Every word is the absolute truth.
As I concluded in Chapter 20: While others are switching identities and pursuing fantasies, I use a pseudonym for the right reasons. It is what allows me to write about my experience most accurately, without fear of unnecessary lawsuits or insults from those who have mistakenly identified themselves.
The bottom line (and a little wink here) is to think a little about your mask, and whether you need it at all.
Invest in it. It makes everything much more intriguing and exciting when you see that you've really put some thought into what you look like and what you have to offer...and try to be a little less similar to each other. You don't have to send pictures with a glass of whiskey/beer/wine to prove that you're a man-man. Look for a little originality.
I know I'm dealing with sensitive and exposed topics, but let's be honest: whoever finds themselves appearing among my lines probably knows deep down that they honestly earned this mention.
And I won't deny it! I met people here with big hearts and sensitive souls, with and without a mask, full of wisdom and sensitivity. So it was worth all the effort.
Yours with love
Yael
